Tafsir

Verses 1-5

Verses 6-7

Verse 8

Verse 16

Verse 17

About the surah AL-ALA / The Most High

Surah 87 : SURAH AL-ALA « THE MOST HIGH »

Description of Surah AL-ALA « THE MOST HIGH »

Surah Al-Ala is one of the Meccan surahs. It is the 87th surah of the Holy Quran. The name « Al-Ala » is taken from the first verse of the surah and translates in English as: « The Most High ». Surah 87 was revealed after Surah al-Takwîr and contains 19 verses. This surah is part of the last section of the Sacred Book, the Juzz Amma, which gathers together all the short surahs, starting from Surah An Naba up to Surah An Nas.

In the first verses of Surah Al-Ala, God calls the Prophet (sws) to glorify Allah and to follow his prophetic mission; then the seven attributes of God are mentioned. This surah begins with a glorification of Allah, notably for all that He has created, whether the visible or the invisible world. Surah 87 also addresses the conditions of the descent of the Holy Book. This surah also speaks of both the believers and the impious, as well as of the sources of happiness and misery of these two groups.

The Prophet (sws) often recited Surah Al-Ala during the Friday prayer and during the prayers of the two feasts.

How was Surah Al-Ala revealed?

Surah Al-Ala was revealed in Mecca after Surah al-Takwîr. In the order of revelation, it holds the 8th place.

What are the interpretation and the deep meaning of Surah Al-Ala?

Surah Al-Ala recalls the greatness of Allah and the perfection of His Creation, affirming that success and reward will be reserved for all those who perform their prayers, showing devotion and glorification towards the Almighty Lord.

To admit that God is the Creator is to adopt the path of wisdom. It is to accept God « The Most High ». In all that exists, there is nothing that does not depend on God. The whole world, visible and invisible, the animals and mankind, are part of the whole created by Allah Ta'ala. Allah has set the beginning for the Universe and has also set its end. Allah, « The Most High », is the Supreme Being, the One, the Transcendent, the Universal, the Creator of all things, since He possesses Absolute Perfection.

Thus, each time the Messenger of Allah (sws) recited Surah Al Ala, He would say : « Glory to my Lord the Most High », according to Ibn Abbas, may Allah be pleased with him.

Why recite and learn Surah Al Ala, what are its merits?

Concerning the rewards of this surah, it is first reported from the Companion Ali, may Allah be pleased with him, that he said: « The Prophet loved Surah Al-Ala, and it was Mikail who, for the first time, said: « Glory to my Lord, the Most High ». »

Whoever reads this Surah with diligence and reverence will be told on the Day of Resurrection: « Enter through whichever gate of Paradise you desire ».

It is also recommended to recite Surah 87 during the daily prayers in the hope of being granted all its benefits.
